BCB president Nazmul: Won’t force Hathurusingha to stay

Sylheter Sokal Desk :: BCB president Nazmul Hasan said Thursday that they won’t force Chandika Hathurusingha to stay on as the Tigers’ head coach after it was learned that the former Sri Lankan cricketer had tendered his resignation to cricket’s governing body in Bangladesh.

“There is no reason to refuse his resignation. We can’t force anyone if they don’t want to stay. He (Hathurusingha) used to enjoy his role. He was always busy with cricket. We were also happy with him. Now if he doesn’t like his post, why should he stay?” the BCB boss told the media.

“And if he does want to stay, he will have the option. If he was there with us for a few more days, it would have been good for us. I am sure it’s (decision to resign) not due to his deal with us. It is not down to money.

“I think he got hurt during the last series (against South Africa). Why, I don’t know yet. It will be hard to ascertain the real reason without talking with him,” the BCB chief added.
The BCB supremo confirmed that he has received the resignation letter from Hathurusingha.

“He has given me a letter. Previously, he also gave me another letter. He had received a good offer then. We didn’t let him go though. This time it is different. There are no reasons cited in his letter. It is difficult to respond back if we don’t know the reason. We thought let the (South Africa) series finish. It is not right to talk between a series,” said Nazmul.

“There were a few selection issues. We thought of talking with him after the series. We got him on the phone only once. We told him to come here. He said he will come after the 15th (of November). Now we are communicating with him. But there is no response from him,” he explained.

The BCB boss informed that they will be on the lookout for a coach, provided Hathurusingha is determined to stay with his decision of resigning. Nazmul added that said chances are less of a local coach becoming a permanent choice for the senior national side.

“If he is not here, we have to look for other options. It’s not about choosing someone suddenly. We have to find the right choice. We have to see if we can find someone of quality. Till a foreign coach is appointed, a local coach can stay at the helm of the Tigers. But the local coach will not be there permanently,” he concluded.
